First 24 hours

Take care of safety first. The paperwork can wait a beat.

  1. Ensure your safety. Leave the property if there is any structural, electrical, or gas hazard.
  2. Prevent further damage. Where it is safe to do so, take reasonable steps such as shutting off the water supply. For anything that isn't safe to handle yourself, the providers below can help.
  3. Document the damage. When safe to do so, take photos of all affected areas before any cleanup or repairs begin.
  4. Keep all receipts. Retain records of any emergency expenses and temporary lodging.
  5. Read before you sign. Be sure you fully understand any document before signing it, including contractor "assignment of benefits" or "direction to pay" forms.
  6. Report the loss. Notify Stand promptly through the File a Claim form.
